Description
Description of the photograph reads, “EAST PITTSBURGH, Pa., June 16 -- Longer than three football fields and seven stories high, this new generator manufacturing aisle at the Westinghouse East Pittsburgh plant approximately doubles the firm’s capacity to produce giant electric generators and large motors. Two levels of crane runways overhead accommodate three 50-ton cranes and to 200-ton cranes. The all-steel roof is 93 feet above the ground. On the floor is the latest equipment for assembly and test of giant generators. Westinghouse now has on order generators up to 260,000 kilowatt capacity. Just three years ago, such sizes were not even on the drawing boards.”
