Description
The Crooked Creek Flood Control Reservoir Dam is located approximately thirty miles northeast of Pittsburgh. The construction of the dam was authorized by the Flood Control Act of 1936. The project was completed by the Army Corps of Engineers in June 1940. The dam itself is located on Crooked Creek, seven miles above its confluence with the Allegheny River. The creek’s drainage basin is outside of Allegheny County, within Armstrong and Indiana Counties. Today, Crooked Creek is a popular recreational destination for boaters, water-skiers, fishermen, and sun bathers.
