Description
The Point Breeze section of Pittsburgh is located just outside of Wilkinsburg and Homewood. During the mid to late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Point Breeze attracted Pittsburgh’s wealthiest citizens, who built large homes and mansions along Penn Avenue. Andrew Carnegie moved here in 1862, becoming one of the first industrialists to move into the area. His home was located on Homewood Street near the residence of Judge Wilkins. Heinz, Frick, Mellon, and Westinghouse are other notable residents of this neighborhood during this period. Today, the only mansion that has survived in its original state is Henry Clay Frick’s “Clayton” Estate. It houses a museum dedicated to the entrepreneur, as well as the Frick Art Museum.
