Description
A street scene on South Duquesne Avenue in the City of Duquesne in Allegheny County. In 1891 Duquesne became a city and by 1916 the population had expanded to 19,000 people, making Duquesne the fourth largest city in Allegheny County. The population of Duquesne reached its peak of 21,396 in 1930 and by 1950 the number was still over 17,000. About 16 percent of the population was foreign-born, reflecting the large number of immigrants who came to the mill town.
