Description
Three Rivers Stadium (center) occupied 27 acres of the North Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh on the former site of Exposition Park. Designed by Deeter Ritchy Sipple, Michael Baker, Jr., and Osborn Engineering, the $55 million stadium opened on July 16, 1970, as home field to both the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Steelers, seating 47,971 fans for baseball games and 59,000 for football games. Three Rivers was imploded on February 11, 2001, and replaced by two new stadiums, Heinz Field for the Steelers, and PNC Park for the Pirates.
