Description
South Park covers approximately 2,000 acres and is known for its long association as the site of the Allegheny County Fair. Some of the park’s attractions included, both 18 and 9-hole golf courses, a wildlife reserve, a skating rink, a “wave action” pool, and numerous trails. It also is the site of the Oliver Miller Homestead, and eighteenth century residence that played a part in the Whiskey Rebellion. South Park is in the most heavily populated portion of Allegheny County outside of Pittsburgh, and is used by all levels of the community. The ice-skating rink (pictured here) was built in 1958 at a cost of about $800,000.
