Description
The Greenfield Bridge or Beechwood Boulevard Bridge spanning the Penn-Lincoln Parkway. The bridge is located in Pittsburgh’s Greenfield and Schenley Park neighborhoods. The concrete, open spandrel deck arch bridge has a total length (including longest elevated ramp) of 426 feet. The bridge was designed by architect Stanley L. Roush and was completed in 1923. It was the fourth bridge to enter Schenley Park and included ornamental bronze and cut Indiana limestone, sculptured lampposts, pedestals, urns, and inscribed pylons. By the 1970s, the concrete arch was in a state of decay. Wooden frames and later nets were attached to catch chunks of concrete, which were falling onto Penn-Lincoln Parkway traffic. In 1980, the structure was substantially overhauled and patched. Most of the decorative features of the deck were removed at that time.
