Description
By 1951 much of what had been a deteriorating area of industrial buildings and dilapidated dwellings had been razed to make way for the new Gateway Center and Point State Park development. At the far left, the old Point Bridge, spanning the Monongahela River, connects the South Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh with the Point. In the center, the first of the Gateway buildings are under construction, and in the background (right) the U.S Steel Building dominates the skyline.
