Description
A view of the Golden Triangle from Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington neighborhood, with the Fort Pitt Bridge on the right spanning the Monongahela River, and the Fort Duquesne Bridge on the left spanning the Allegheny River. The steel bowstring arch, double-deck Fort Duquesne Bridge, sometimes known as “The Bridge to Nowhere,” opened to traffic on October 17, 1969. The main span was completed in 1963, but because of difficulties in securing a site to place the bridge’s northern ramps, traffic was unable to use these ramps until 1969. Three Rivers Stadium is pictured in the background.
