Description
To make way for redevelopment of the acreage that would become Gateway Center and Point State Park, the area near the old Wabash Railroad terminal was gradually demolished after the terminal building was destroyed by fire in 1946. In the background is the Wabash Bridge, which spanned the Monongahela River where the Wabash Railroad Tunnel emerged under Mount Washington. The bridge was demolished in 1948, and construction began on the Gateway Center complex shortly thereafter.
