Description
Kelly Elementary School, located at 400 Kelly Avenue in the Pittsburgh suburb of Wilkinsburg, is a part of the Wilkinsburg school district. The Wilkinsburg School District is currently comprised of six schools working on student achievement and high academic standards for all students. These schools include Johnston Elementary, Kelly Elementary, Turner Elementary, Wilkinsburg Academy, Wilkinsburg Middle School, and Wilkinsburg High School. Wilkinsburg, 2.1 square miles in size and located nine miles east of downtown Pittsburgh, originated as a small settlement called Rippeyville in 1788. Its name was changed to McNairsville in 1790. After 1840 it was annexed to the City of Pittsburgh, but returned to independence in 1871. It formally became the Borough of Wilkinsburg on October 5, 1887.
