  • The Arts and Crafts Center of Pittsburgh, formally known as the Marshall House, became City property in 1943. This facility is located at Fifth and Shady Avenues in the Shadyside neighborhood of Pittsburgh and in the late 1960s accommodated approximately 18 resident groups. The first floor galleries first opened in 1945 and the first official preview was in October 1946 for a show entitled “Woman and Pearls.” Some of the local member groups in 1969 included the Craftsman’s Branch of the Embroiderer’s Guild Inc., the Recorder Workshop, the Tampa Ring 3 of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, the Natural Color Camera Club, the Pittsburgh Drama League, the Guild of Flower Arrangers, and the Society of Artists. Presently, the Center brings in shows by national and international artists.
