Description
The Ewart Building, originally the headquarters of Samuel Ewart and Company, wholesale grocers, opened in 1891. Architect Henry Hobson Richardson designed the building in the Romanesque style, which was very popular during that time period. Combining the Classical and Romantic styles, it was one of the United State's first modern office buildings as well as one of the first buildings to use electricity. It is located at Liberty Avenue and 7th Street in downtown Pittsburgh.
