Pennsylvania Airlines merged with Central Airlines on November 1, 1936, to become Pennsylvania Central Airlines. On April 21, 1948, Pennsylvania Central Airlines changed its name to Capital Airlines. Capital Airlines was the first airline to introduce a new low fare ‘coach’ service called ‘Nighthawk’ on November 4, 1948. Capital Airlines merged into United Airlines on June 1, 1961.
