Description
Mesta Machine Company, located in West Homestead, Pennsylvania, manufactured various types of tooth gears up to 32 feet in diameter and 6 feet wide made of air furnace melted cast iron, acid open hearth steel, or alloy steel. The plant covered more than twenty acres and employed approximately three thousand employees, most of whom were skilled mechanics, in the early twentieth century. The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century.
