Description
The Mesta Machine Company plant, located about six miles from Pittsburgh, covered more than twenty acres and employed approximately three thousand employees, most of whom were skilled mechanics. The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century. The company also produced various types of engines for its customers that included gas and steam powered engines for use with blast furnaces, una-flow or direct-flow engines for driving roll mills, and reversing and Corliss engines.
