Description
The Mesta Machine Company was one of the leading manufacturers of machine tool and steel mill equipment in the world during the first half of the twentieth century. Some of their products included, gas and steam blowing engines for blast furnaces, forging presses, shears, cut and machine-molded gears, and various types of rolls used in rolling mills. The company’s Erecting Department contained a 10,000-ton hydraulic pusher utilized for making built-up crank shafts, and testing pits for making hydrostatic tests. The main department was 60 feet wide by 460 feet long with a smaller secondary department. Finished factory parts were delivered to this department by motored cars. The company was noted for a number of delivery records, including the construction and delivery of a 900,000 pound blowing engine in 45 days.
