Description

Osterling, the school was named for named for George P. Letsche, a long-term member of the Central School Board, the predecessor to the Pittsburgh Public School Board. In 1941, it was remodeled and expanded under the direction of Pittsburgh Public Schools Superintendent of Buildings Marion M. Steen. In 1975, Letsche became an alternative learning center that offered childcare programs and make-up classes for overage students. The Letsche School received a National Historic Designation in 1986 and was later added to the National Registry of Historic Places in 2002.
