Founded in Pittsburgh's Hill District in 1916 to provide Jewish education to immigrant children, the Hebrew Institute moved to Squirrel Hill in 1944. Early childhood day campers can be seen on the lower roof garden located in the library annex building between the East and West buildings. These buildings were acquired in 1944 and were located at the corner of Forbes and Denniston Avenues.
