  • Walter X. Eibeck (1915-1992) was a Pittsburgh singer featured for 10 years on KDKA radio. He sang lead tenor for 40 years with Circle W Four, formerly the Westinghouse Quartet, a barbershop quartet which travelled throughout the US and Canada and performed on USO tours throughout the world. He and his group were affiliated with the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBQSA). Eibeck had a day job as a bricklayer. Eibeck is joined by Bob Brandl, a fellow member of SPEBQSA. They talk about the Pittsburgh Chapter of SPEBQSA and it's founding in 1941; the history of barbershop singing in Pittsburgh; barbershop singing societies around the world; the humor inherent in barbershop quartet entertainment, the charitable work of the chapters; the rules of the organizations; and the parties they have.
