Description
Walter X. Eibeck (1915-1992) was a Pittsburgh singer featured for 10 years on KDKA radio. He sang lead tenor for 40 years with Circle W Four, formerly the Westinghouse Quartet, a barbershop quartet which travelled throughout the US and Canada and performed on USO tours throughout the world. He and his group were affiliated with the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America (SPEBQSA). Eibeck had a day job as a bricklayer. Eibeck talks about the Hit Parade, and the pressures of doing live broadcasts in the 1950's every week with new music material; the different live music programs that aired on TV and radio in the 1950s, and the people who performed and ran the programs; starting the barbershop quartet, The Westinghouse Quartet in 1948; competing in barbershop contests under the name of Circle W4 in 1965; the way barbershop contests were held; going on USO tours with the Circle W4 quartet in the 1960's and 1970's; SPEBQSA and the different district chapters and contests.
