Description
Dorothy Demmler (1908-1997) was the secretary of the Department of Music in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and a member of the Tuesday Music Club. Her father taught instrumental music in Carrick High School, and other Allegheny County schools and was a choir director. Her husband, Oscar W. Demmler, was the Instrumental Music Director for Pittsburgh Public Schools, and a substitute organist at 20 Pittsburgh area churches. Demmler talks about her early music education; her family as a child; lessons at the music school Fillion Studios; Mr. Fillion and his wife; Liam Lockhart a music teacher of hers; her husband Oscar Demmler's early career in music education in the Pittsburgh Public Schools; Dr. Will Earhart, the director of music in Pittsburgh Public Schools; the Pittsburgh Musical Institute; and Jacob Evanson, director of vocal music in the Pittsburgh Public Schools.
