Description
Political cartoon by the artist Cyrus Cotton Hungerford depicting in-party fighting in the Republican Party in Pittsburgh during the 1929 primary election. Register of Wills Joseph Mackrell, wishing for reform of the Party, is sent away by "Old Republican Organization" defending incumbent Mayor Charles H. Kline. Republican State Senator M.G. Leslie is depicting as a neutral party on "the fence." City Council President James F. Malone is also represented, seeking support within the Republican party as he campaigned in the 1929 primary election. In 1912 Hungerford began as a newspaper cartoon artist at the Pittsburgh Sun, afterwards he produced daily cartoons at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette from 1927 until his retirement in 1977.
