Description
Louis Melani moved to the United States with his family at a young age. His father worked in construction and mining, leading the family to settle in various locations. Melani began working in the mines at an early age, initially as a trapper, later as an interpreter for his father, and eventually becoming a motorman. He discusses the 1926 mine explosion at Horning Mine, where his brother worked. The interview touches on the 1927 strike, driven by disputes over wages and changes in labor agreements, leading to open-shop policies.
