Description
The BORON gas station on the intersection of Forward and Murray Avenues is one of a string of gas stations at this location since the 1930s. On the hill above the gas station are some of the 46 apartment houses Thomas Watkins built in the 1920s as part of his development that dramatically increased the population density of Squirrel Hill. Between the Boron station and the apartment houses are a row of businesses along Forward Avenue that were also originally part of the Watkins development. Above the roof of the BORON station is a row of brick buildings that was an automobile repair and maintenance garage built by Thomas Watkins as part of his development.
