  • James King Clarke (1874-1958), son of Charles John Clarke (1833-1899), and "Delly" Suydam, presumably a descendant of Moses Bedell Suydam, Sr. (1832-1895) and possibly M. B. Suydam, Jr., pilot a sailed catamaran on Lake Conemaugh. The lake was originally constructed with the South Fork Dam as a reservoir for the Pennsylvania Canal. The reservoir and dam were both abandoned when the canal system was replaced by the Pennsylvania Railroad. Later, the abandoned reservoir and dam were purchased by the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club (Pa.) to create "Lake Conemaugh," which was used by the club for recreation.
