An image of Gulf's Research Laboratory. The caption reads: "The endurance limit of a metal is the greatest unit stress to which it can be repeatedly subjected without resultant failure. It is determined by the machine in the foreground in which a standard machined sample of the metal under examination is installed as a rotary beam that is uniformly loaded across the center section by hanging weights."
