Description
Employee filling Patton's Sun-Proof paint by weight and measure. In the 1890s, reports from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company's sales warehouse system found that its clients considered glass and paint to be companion products. As a result, the company decided that it would be advantageous to expand into the production of paints, varnishes, and brushes. PPG bought controlling interest in Patton Paint Co. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) in 1900 and also acquired other paint factories in Portland, Los Angeles, Newark, Detroit, and Canada.
