The Thresher Varnish Company was acquired by Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in 1937 after the company had been operating for 78 years in Dayton, Ohio. At the time of the acquisition, the holdings of the Thresher Varnish Company further supplemented PPG's varnish and lacquer factories in Milwaukee, Newark, Detroit, Portland, and Los Angeles.
