Description
While the family car was a big factor in Burke Glen’s success, it also was to lead to the parks’ demise, for during World War II gas rationing severely restricted recreational driving by the public, and revenues shrank. In addition, the construction of the new Route 22 in the 1940s had taken land from Burke Glen, reducing the size of the amusement park. As a result, the park was forced to scale back operations; it never fully recovered.
