Description
Pennsylvania Pitt’s Partners annual Spring “Clean-up, Paint-up and Fix-up Program” was sponsored by the Civic Club of Allegheny County to improve and beautify Pittsburgh’s neighborhoods. The program, active through the 1940s, was performed under the guidance of local teachers. In addition to the Clean-up Program to beautify the community, the Civic Club established smoke abatement regulations, education programs for workers and immigrants, child labor regulation, inner city playgrounds, contagious disease hospitals, public concerts, and the maintenance of public gardens. In 1974 the Civic Club of Allegheny County was dissolved due to financial difficulties.
