Description
The North Side neighborhood of Pittsburgh, annexed to Pittsburgh in 1907, was once the independent City of Allegheny. During the time when this photograph was taken, the North Side was a mixture of commercial and residential structures. In the upper center of the photograph are the Ninth Street, Seventh Street, and Sixth Street (today known as the Robert Clemente Bridge) Bridges spanning the Allegheny River. These bridges are also known collectively as the “Three Sisters” bridges. The bridges were built in late 1920s and were designed by architect Stanley L. Roush.
