Scope and Content Notes

The collection is housed in three archival boxes and eight shelf volumes, with folders and volumes arranged alphabetically by title and miscellaneous material arranged toward the rear. Correspondence includes letters from William Piper, Jr., and the Civil Aeronautics Authority. Papers related to the North American Air Museum include a membership application and general announcements. Miscellaneous papers of the OX5 Club are arranged in one folder, and another folder contains a run of aviation cartoons drawn by Skip Shelton for Stevens Aviation, Inc. A folder of materials relating to the Custer Channel Wing Corporation includes stock certificates and annual reports. Within the folder of published materials are an issue of Pegasus from 1950,  Air Pioneers from 1964, and assorted aviation newsletters of the 1990s. In one folder is found the transcript of an interview of Kenneth Scholter conducted in 1993 by William F. Trimble. In the course of the interview, Kenneth Scholter discusses early aviators and airfields in western Pennsylvania, including the beginnings of Bettis Field and Graham Airport (Butler). The news clippings pertain to various and important periods in aeronautics in and around Pittsburgh. For example, they document the first airmail service. Many of the news clippings within the scrapbooks pertain to Charles Lindberg's visit to Pittsburgh in 1927. Among the ephemeral materials are many postcards, brochures, and schedules of air flights and fares. The folder of miscellaneous materials includes the  Plane News c1918. Also of note and included within the miscellaneous folder is Kenneths' Federation Aeronautique Internationale United States of America annual sporting license for 1931 signed by Orville Wright (1871-1948).
