History

The Pittsburgh Infirmary and Deaconess Hospital was founded in June 1849 by the Rev. W.A. Passavant. It was managed by the Protestant Deaconess of Allegheny Co. with Dr. Passavant serving as director. A short history can be found in J.M. Kelly's Handbook of Greater Pittsburgh, 1895, which was filmed and is located at the beginning of the reel.
