Description
Henry D. Lindsay was President of the Pennsylvania College for Women from 1906 until his sudden death from pneumonia in 1914. He was born in the town of Due West, SC in 1859. He graduated from the College of South Carolina in 1879 and afterward attended the Theological Seminary at Princeton. In 1893 he came to Pittsburgh to be a pastor in Allegheny, PA. When he accepted the Presidency of the College, he also taught courses in psychology and homiletics. During the eight years that he was President, he greatly increased the number of women enrolled, expanded and diversified the curriculum, and created a social atmosphere on campus. Perhaps due to his efforts, the College gained a national reputation during his tenure.
