Caption on the back of the photograph reads, “Taken from about 23rd Street looking up river to Jones and Laughlins. J & L building M.C. railroad extension showing trestle work in river. J & L filling in river with ashes from mill. Floating on moveable dry dock repairing boats. All boats were made of wood. Old Wharton Mill above dock.” Jones & Laughlin Steel Corporation was located on the South Side of the Monongahela River.
