Description of the photograph reads, “MONROEVILLE, PA., May 7 - Over three hundred pounds of coke is pushed from one of four experimental coke ovens at U. S. Steel’s Research Center. In the coal evaluation area, different types and various combinations of coking coals are tested in the ovens to determine the most satisfactory blends for U. S. Steel’s coking plants. Frank Leon is shown guiding the coke into a hopper as it is pushed from the oven.”
