Description
Perry High School, formally known as the 15th Ward School No. 1, is located at 3875 Perrysville Avenue in Pittsburgh’s North Side neighborhood. The school was named for Perrysville Avenue or Perry Highway (named in honor of Commodore Perry, a noted figure during the War of 1812), which ran directly in front of the school. The school changed its name in 1913 to Perry Elementary School after it was incorporated into the Pittsburgh public school system. On May 4, 1923, dedication services were held for the newly constructed high school. In 1925 an addition was built that included a cafeteria, shops, classrooms, and a gymnasium. Today, all City of Pittsburgh residents may apply to this school. Acceptance is based on available space and racial balance.
