Description
The interior of the Allegheny Light Company power station. Description reads: "AC POWER PLANTS GREW RAPIDLY - The early current power plants grew rapidly and used numerous small alternators belt driven. This is a Westinghouse plant of about 1888. Original AC generator - (1886-1889). This type has a smooth armature core, covered with a single layer of wire. It produced 133 cycles, 1000 volts, single phase. The bearings required frequent attention, being lubricated by drip from the large oil reservoirs. Developed by Westinghouse."
