Description
Panels from the AIDS Memorial Quilt on display in Pittsburgh for the first time, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt began in 1987 to commemorate the lives of individuals who had died due to HIV/AIDS, as well as bring awareness to the infectious disease. At the time of viewing, the quilt featured 8,288 panels. Today (2017) it features over 48,000, according to the NAMES Project Foundation's website.
