Description
The parade makes its way down Allegheny River Boulevard to celebrate the dedication of the viaduct on May 30, 1938. A car leads the way, with four people inside. A crowd of parading Oakmonters follow, carrying three American flags. On the top of the wall to the car's left, two children stand and watch the parade. When a new viaduct was built to replace the old streetcar bridge that connected Verona and Oakmont it extended Allegheny River Boulevard all the way from Washington Boulevard in Pittsburgh to Hulton Road in Oakmont. Over 5,000 citizens from Verona and Oakmont celebrated the opening of the new viaduct on June 21, 1938. With the opening of the new viaduct Oakmont Avenue was renamed Allegheny River Boulevard.
