Description
Gang #1 gathers for a group photograph in celebration of the plant's completion of its 'One Millionth Wheel' in 1944. Since older cameras could not capture movement, one man on the left side of the group looks like a ghost. Many of the workers fail to smile on this momentous occasion, either caught unprepared or just ready to get back to work. Located on Allegheny River Boulevard and College Avenue, the plant eventually expanded to produce forged and rolled products to the transportation and industrial gear and bearing industries. The company also produced forged and rolled rings from titanium and other aerospace materials for the use in combustion chambers of military and commercial engines for jet aircraft and rockets. The plant operated in Oakmont until 2001 and was Oakmont's largest employer for several years.
