The photograph collection for David Lefty Abrams includes images from 1900-1920. Many of the photographs depict Abrams posing with his teammates for the Coffey Club basketball and baseball teams and Carnegie Institute of Technology basketball team. Also included in the collection are three family photographs, one with his brother, and a single photograph showing Abrams as a young boy at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, David Abrams photographs, MSP 0536, Library and Archives Division, Senator John Heinz History Centr, Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania., Howard Abrams, son of David Lefty Abrams gift June 21, 2005 2005.0183 Photographs., Born on April 7, 1895, David Lefty Abrams grew up in the Hill District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where a significant population of Jewish immigrants resided. He played on the Coffey Club basketball and baseball teams. Organized in 1910, with a mission to promote clean living and clean thinking, the Coffey Club sponsored competitive basketball and baseball teams for young Jewish men. The Coffey Club teams were popular on the court, with a strong and often victorious presence.
