The Young Friends of North America, whose members were between the ages of 18-30, established a Committee on Conscription in the fall of 1968. The Committee on Conscription facilitated communication among members who were involved with draft resistance. The Committee also collected information from members who have resisted the draft since the 1940's and from those who were imprisoned for draft resistance. This collection contains photocopies of memoranda, minutes, questionnaires, brochures, broadsides, pamphlets, a newsletter and membership and mailing lists.

History

The Young Friends of North America, whose members were between the ages of 18-30, established a Committee on Conscription in the fall of 1968. The Committee on Conscription facilitated communication among members who were involved with draft resistance. The Committee also collected information from members who have resisted the draft since the 1940's and from those who were imprisoned for draft resistance.

Scope and Content Notes

This collection contains photocopies of memoranda, minutes, questionnaires, brochures, broadsides, pamphlets, a newsletter and membership and mailing lists. Organizational data includes background information on the founding, purpose and scope of the Young Friends of North America, Committee on Conscription and membership and mailing lists. Draft Non-cooperators Files contain lists and completed questionnaires of members and those who were troubled as to whether or not they should participate in the draft and then decided to become non-cooperators. The questionnaires contain names, addresses, employment information, hometowns, Friends' involvement and details of draft cases. Memoranda include notes for meetings, data for pamphlets and lists of persons who elected not to participate in the draft.
