Abstract
John W. Cummins was a professor of English at Chatham College from 1954-1985.  He specialized in 19 th century British literature and life and focused his scholarship and teaching in these areas.  The John W. Cummins Collection consists of documents that chronicle teaching and life on the Chatham Campus from 1954-1989.  Materials include information on curriculum, administrative processes, correspondence, and professional development activities in which Cummins participated.

Biographical Information:

John W. Cummins was a professor of English at Chatham College from 1954-1985. His research focused primarily on 18 th and 19 th century literature. At Chatham, Cummins served as an advisor on the Minor Bird, participated in theater productions, and became the chairperson of the English Department and the Buhl Professor of English in 1987. After retiring from teaching, Cummins held the position of archival project director until his final retirement in 1993. He passed away on December 21, 2006.
