Abstract
Virginia Ann Sager attended the Pennsylvania College for Women from 1944 – 1948 as a day student. She was the first woman in her family to receive a college education. The Virginia Sager Collection spans her time at the Pennsylvania College for Women.

Biographical Information:

Virginia Ann Sager attended the Pennsylvania College for Women from 1944 – 1948 as a day student. She was the first woman in her family to receive a college education. Sager married Charles Edward Peterson around 1949. Virginia and Charles then had a daughter Joanne, who also attended Chatham as a Gateway Student, graduating in 1986. In 2016 Joanne Peterson, a member of Chatham’s Center for Women’s Entrepreneurship, received the Chatham University Cornerstone Award in Information Technology for her success in the field.

The Academic Materials series includes course lists, grade reports, prices of books, a Latin exam, and lastly Sager’s Graduate Record Examination scores. The materials encompass both the P.C.W. and University of Pittsburgh courses taken by Virginia Sager.

Scope and Contents

The series consists of four Newspaper Clippings of Sager’s time at P.C.W. Virginia Sager is clearly recognized in two photographs from The Washington Post, and The Sunday Herald. It is unclear if she is also one of the students in The New York Herald Tribune. The fourth article does not contain photographs.
