Description
A member of the 11th graduating class (1883), Mary Wilson Acheson Spencer was one of the college's most active alumnae. Despite being the busy mother of seven children, Mrs. Spencer served on the PCW Board of Trustees from 1902 until her death in 1950. She was also a President of the Alumnae Association, active in the college presidential search of 1922, and a member of the 50th anniversary celebration committee. In 1925, the college awarded Mrs. Spencer an Honorary Master of Arts degree for her exemplary service. Her family life is chronicled in her daughter Ethel Spencer's book The Spencers of Amberson Avenue: A Turn-of-the-Century Memoir.
