Portrait of Florence Kellogg Root, who was an instructor of Latin and Greek from 1910-1913 and college Dean from 1917-1922. Root left PCW in 1913 to accept a teaching position at her alma mater, Smith College. Just prior to her return in 1917, she was doing doctoral work at Columbia University. According to college historian, Laberta Dysart, Root's duties as Dean were "especially heavy," because then President Acheson's work frequently took him off campus.
