Description
This photograph captures the Matriculation Day procession from Braun Hall to the Chapel. Paul Russell Anderson, College President 1945-1960; George F. Parker, Chaplain 1953-1960; and Lucile A. Allen, Dean 1952-1959 lead the faculty. Matriculation Day was at this time the official opening of the academic year and freshmen's first opportunity to participate in an academic tradition. For this occasion, seniors would don their caps and gowns for the first time. Dean Allen delivered the address on this day in 1955 titled, "The Significance of Matriculation in a Liberal Arts College."
