  • JoAnne Burley started at Chatham as an assistant professor of Education in 1981. With a MA in English Education and a PhD in Language Communication, Research and Statistics, Dr. Burley was chosen to chair the committee that founded Chatham's Center for Professional Development. Opened in 1984, the CPD supervised the teaching and proficiency testing of students; assisted in career planning, counseling, resume writing, interview skills, and internships; provided non-credit workshops, programs, and seminars for professional training and development; and also served as the administrative offices of the Act 101 program which provided additional academic and cultural enrichment to students from Pennsylvania who showed academic promise. As an example, the Center provided instruction in library skills, public speaking, GRE test preparation, and English as a Second Language (ESL). Dr. Burley served as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs from 1987- 1992.
